Get Ready for Camp
You are enrolled in a Camp session this summer and it is already time to start preparing for your summer adventure. Below is a list of tasks you may want to make note of as you prepare. If any questions or suggestions come up during your preparation process, please contact us at info@birchwoodforboys or 218.388.4402.
Join the online Camp Community
Though we celebrate the ability to truly unplug while at Camp, we love to keep in touch with our Camp families throughout the years. Camp's social media profiles are a great way to ask questions, find Camp families in your area and share your favorite memories of Camp. Click on any of the social media icons at the base of this page to see where we hang out online.
All of the required forms for Camp are found on our website and in your Bunk1 account. Once you are finished with your forms, email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or mail them to the Camp Office at 7200 Park Ave, Richfield, MN 55423. The following forms are required to participate in any of camp's programming: Medical Form 1, Medication Form, Camper Profile, Form, Letter of Authorization and Travel Confirmation Form.
Get your travel arrangements finalized
In March our travel agency TravelOne will release the flight schedules for travel to and from Camp. A number of seats are blocked off on these flights so that campers from the same cities will get to sit together on their way to Minneapolis. Call Leann Krenz with TravelOne at 1.800.247.1311 soon after the dates are posted to assure you get the flight schedules that work best for you. If you choose to book your own flight without TravelOne please make sure the flight times are within those specified in the Parent Handbook. The Handbook also contains all of the details for families who will be meeting the Camp Bus/Van in Minneapolis. As soon as you know your travel arrangments please send your Travel Confirmation to the Camp Office via email.
Read through the Parent Handbook
The Handbook is packed full of every aspect of preparing for camp, travel, communications and about fifty years of feedback from campers and their families. We think we have all the answers in the Handbook, but it changes a little bit every year so if you think of a question that is not answered in the book please let us know so we can add it to the pages. We will mail you a hardcopy of the Handbook in March along with your very important ORANGE luggage tags. The Delta baggage handlers look for these tags to make sure they are routed to the Camp bus/van. If the ORANGE tags are not present your camper's bags may be left behind. ADDENDUM: The American Camp Association requires we inform all campers, parents and/or guardians that they are not allowed to bring animals for use in programming at Camp Birchwood for Boys.
Start getting your clothes and gear ready
The packing list is a great start for what you will need at Camp. We have found that the popup soft trunk from Everything Summer Camp works well with our cabin layouts. Because kids are frequently packing and unpacking to go on adventure trips, the soft trunk provides a number of compartments for organization. Don't forget to label your camper's gear.
Familiarize yourself with BunkNotes and Camp's bLOG
We know the hardest part of going away for camp often falls on the side of the parents. To ease the feelings of missing your camper, get to know the ways that will allow you to stay in the know. BunkNotes are a service of Bunk1 that provide parents the ability to send their camper an email note. The note is printed and handed out with regular mail. You may also elect to provide reply stationary with the note, on which your camper will handwrite a note that is collected and sent directly to your email address. Another way to see what is going on at Camp is the bLOG. Here we will post the trips that are departing and which campers are traveling with that group. Though there are no bLOG posts on Thursdays, because all campers are out of Camp on their adventures, we try hard to keep you updated daily.
