Some campers find their way to Camp Birchwood for Boys because we are in a fishing paradise. The pristine waters surrounding Camp and within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wildereness (a five minute paddle from Camp's dock), provide a remarkable fish habitat perfect for the art and sport of fishing. In fact, the Minnesota state record walleye was caught right in front of Camp Birchwood for Boys, then known as Gunflint Wilderness Camp, in 1979.
Pictured here is camper Chris O., who won the coveted Camp Birchwood "Stevesie" award at Camp this summer. The Stevesie is awarded to the camper who catches the "biggest fish" while at Camp. Although the northern pike in the photo was not the award winning fish, it's a nice looking catch.
