At the beginning of each session, all campers go through a wilderness skills orientation/refresher we call Gunflint School. This orientation is a fun way to learn the skills needed to have a safe and fun adventure into the Northern Minnesota wilderness.
Tomorrow the SLP (Senior Leaders) will push off from the camp dock into Saganaga Lake on their to Red Rock Bay then down to Seagull Lake by way of Red Rock Lake and Alpine Lake. This is a very famous Boundary Waters loop that these experienced voyageurs will do in three days / two nights. Once the group leaves tomorrow, I will post their picture here on the blog and the link to their Delorme Device. This device allows you to follow along as they venture around the Alpine Loop.
The rest of the campers will use the morning to participate in activities like archery, riflery, sailing, arts & crafts, water tubing and fishing. After lunch, the group will hit the water to learn, practice and refresh their canoe skills. Once everyone is up to speed and comfortable with their canoe skills, we will eat dinner and stay in Reeve Hall to plan and prep for the first round of cabin trips. These trips are another great opportunity for campers to learn and/or reacclimate themselves with the wilderness.
