Another group of future and returning voyageurs arrived at the end of the Gunflint Trail this evening. It is always a long journey to Camp, but that is what makes our location so special and unique. As I walked around the group as we arrived I stopped to talk to so many new and familiar faces. Every single one had a smile and a look of accomplishment that they had arrived (not an exaggeration, this group is awesome).
After a short paddle (or barracuda ride for some) to Camp the campers quickly began to settle into their cabin and get to know their new cabinmates. We all gathered for a late dinner in Reeve Hall and the buzz was that of a group of campers in their second week at Camp. The way this energy is going the first night, I am excited to see what tomorrow brings.
Tomorrow morning we will go through Gunflint School (orientation). This is a great opportunity for campers to learn and refresh their wilderness skills in preparation for their first wilderness trip on Wednesday. After lunch campers will sign up for in-camp activities such as archery, riflery, waterfront, tubing, sailing, arts&crafts, fishing and more. Make sure to check out our picture page for picture updates each day (note that all campers are on trips Thursdays, so there will not be any photos posted).
Also, please call the camp office if you have any questions or even just want to see how your camper is doing. We really take pride in getting to know each and every camper so we would love to share some specific experiences with you if you are looking for an update. As we say at Camp, Ya-Ta-Hey.
