It’s fair to say that hanging a bear-bag, lighting a campfire with birch bark and steering a canoe are relatively specialized skills that not everyone gets the chance to learn. However, at Camp these are all things, amongst many others, that we learn and practice within a few days of arriving at the end of the Gunflint Trail. We then continue to hone these new skills throughout the session at Camp.
Our goal is for the counselors act as guides, giving the campers the opportunity to really master these awesome skills. It is amazing to see the spark being lit in these kids and watching something turn into a real passion; whether it be canoeing, fishing or climbing.
We have so many campers who take their parents or friends on amazing adventures; or become the president of their college climbing club, for example. For us, there is nothing more fantastic than having a camper return as a counselor to teach the skills that they learned and mastered at Camp.
